✅ What is EcoMax?
We’re proud to unveil our new, greener home heating fuel, EcoMax, just in time for winter 2024. EcoMax is a revolutionary hybrid heating fuel which combines kerosene and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). HVO is quickly becoming the go-to alternative fuel in Ireland for business and motorists looking to move away from their reliance on fossil fuels and reduce their carbon footprint.
✅ What is the Benefit of EcoMax?
At Certa, we’re proud to be the first Irish operator to launch a new lower carbon blended biofuel for the home heating market as it continues its strategy of delivering cleaner energy solutions for domestic customers.
EcoMax could enable each of the 700,000 Irish households who currently use liquid fuel heaters to lower their home heating carbon emissions by up to 20%. This combination biofuel comprises a 20%/80% blend of HVO, which is produced from waste plant matter, and kerosene. Householders can use this instead of home heating oil directly without any need to replace or modify their boilers.
✅ Where is EcoMax available?
We will be rolling out EcoMax across our national network of 23 home heating depots this Winter, and we’ve started by making it available to order for households in South and West Dublin and North County Kildare. Ireland’s residential sector currently accounts for 10% of national emissions. Kerosene is the most common fuel used in home heating systems in Ireland with the average household consumes between 1,000 and 2,000 litres of home heating fuel a year.
✅ Part of the Certa Clean Energy Vision
Orla Stevens, Managing Director of Certa Ireland, said the company’s goal is to make it easy for customers to transition to cleaner energy solutions that reduce their carbon footprint.
"Switching to this lower carbon HVO-Kerosene fuel is easy. There is no requirement to upgrade your home heating boiler and it can be done with zero disruption to the household. We're hoping to set the stage for other people to feel comfortable to make the transition as well. If we can prove that HVO is working for us, then we feel that lots of others on the campus will make the transition."
Orla Stevens, Managing Director, Certa Ireland
✅ The Key Ingredient: HVO
The launch of EcoMax follows our recent success in attracting diesel drivers to switch to HVO to reduce their carbon emissions by up to 90%. Last year, we became the first fuel operator to open a fully-fledged HVO fuel station in Liffey Valley and we have since become the first to offer HVO at 10 fuel forecourts around the country.
At Certa, we believe in making sustainability accessible and impactful. This accreditation is just another step in our mission to drive a greener future for Ireland.
