If you have ordered from us in the past and have not changed your boiler, we will know what type of heating oil you use. We supply two types of heating oil. They are:
Kerosene Oil
Kerosene oil has an orange based colour. It burns cleanly, economically and is used in most modern boiler systems. It can be used on indoor boilers. Kerosene oil is treated with anti freeze agents giving you a winter grade oil.
Gas Oil
Gas oil can only be used for heating systems with an out door burner. Gas Oil is used as home heating oil in a lot of older house burners. It is green in colour and can also be referred to as Marked Gas Oil. It can be used to run generators, fridge units on trucks, off road machinery and construction machinery. There may be a sticker on your tank indicating the product used. If you have a ticket from a previous delivery the product will be indicated there.
If you are still unsure, let us know on the “Special Instructions” when ordering and our driver will check before delivery is made.
Yes, you can pay using cash. All forecourts are fitted with at least one payment terminal that will accept cash. Please note however, payment terminals can only give a credit note in lieu of change. If customers are using cash, we suggest they use exact notes where possible.
Credit notes can be used to pay for petrol and for diesel and they do not expire.

In line with the governments climate action plan, we at Certa Ireland are replacing Petrol E5 with Petrol E10. Moving to E10 will increase the amount of bioethanol in petrol from 5% to 10%. This will mean a higher concentration of plant-based ethanol which will help in reducing our carbon footprint. The change to E10 will also bring Ireland in line with most European countries and most of the UK, where E10 petrol is already the standard petrol that is sold. For more information visit this LINK.
Yes, we’re rolling out HVO across our network. You can find all of our forecourts with HVO on our forecourt map. Just tick the box for ‘HVO’ here.
To purchase HVO for commercial use, please call us on 0818 550 550.
HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a 100% drop-in replacement fuel for diesel engines. This means that HVO can be used in any diesel car without making any changes to the car or engine.

HVO fuel is one of the cleanest fuels on the market. It’s a second-generation, synthetic, advanced renewable diesel alternative that eliminates up to 90% of net CO2 and significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.
As a paraffinic, renewable fuel, HVO can be used as a drop-in alternative to fossil diesel, meeting EN 15940 standards and Fuel Quality Directive 2009/30/EC Annex II. There’s no need to modify existing infrastructure – you can simply top up and go.
When it comes to HVO fuel price, Certa can supply the renewable diesel to businesses across the Ireland at a competitive rate, within a short time after purchase. In terms of price per litre, HVO fuel does have a premium over regular diesel, however, it offers up to 90% reduced net CO2 emissions without the cost of changing hardware.
Get in touch with Laura Byrne, Head of Sustainable Fuels on 0858072040 for an HVO fuel quote to start reducing your greenhouse gas emissions today.
Hydrotreating vegetable oils is a modern way to produce high-quality diesel fuels from completely renewable materials which can be regrown when stock is needed. The crops that are used to produce HVO fuel bypass damage to the environment, the natural ecosystem and the drive for global deforestation.
Advanced second-generation fuels, also known as advanced renewable fuels, have been designed to combat the operational and performance inadequacies of conventional fuels and earlier generation biofuels:
Maintain or enhance the net CO2 emission profile of conventional biofuels
Ensure end-use quality compared to current sulphur-free fossil fuels
Compatible with existing fuelling infrastructure
Backward and forward compatibility with vehicle and plant technology
Refuse to react with water and won’t be “eaten” by bugs
Meet bio content requirements with no FAME content
Remain mobile and filterable down to low temperatures
Provide the best environmental credentials available from a liquid fuel
Meet or exceed the lubricity requirements of the major diesel performance specifications EN 590 and ASTM D975
Maintain compatibility with fossil diesel and supply chain
Improve emission profile from E590 optimised engines and provides a platform for further development of C.N. engines
HVO fuel offers the best overall coverage between environmental, operational and performance parameters. It provides the best platform to build a legislative compliant NRMM and MCP fleet.
HVO fuel is perfectly suited to a wide range of industries as an alternative to diesel, such as construction, rail, events and public transport. It’s commonly used in:
- Portable generators
- Commercial boilers
- Agricultural tractors and machinery
- Boasts and vessels operating within inland waterways
- Construction equipment and machinery
- Industrial trucks and tankers
- A handful of events and Irish festivals, including Bloom, National Ploughing Championships, and Electric Picnic have already made the move to HVO fuel to power their portable generators and transportation.
Yes! HVO can be used as a direct replacement for kerosene heating oil with no requirement to modify your home heating system, boiler, or oil tank. However, in some cases, it may be recommended to empty your tank before mixing with HVO to ensure no impurities.
While you can use HVO as a direct replacement for kerosene heating oil, you can also blend both HVO and kerosene together.
We’re thrilled to introduce our new hybrid heating solution just in time for winter! This revolutionary new fuel is a blend of 80% Kerosene and 20% hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
This offers you and your home a simple, drop-in replacement for your regular kerosene heating oil that doesn’t require any adjustments to your boiler and heating system.
EcoMax provides up to 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to regular heating oil!
This cleaner hybrid fuel is designed to give optimal levels of heat to your home while significantly reducing your home’s carbon footprint.
Our regular high-quality Kerosene has been combined with HVO at the ratio of 80:20. HVO is being adapted successfully by businesses and motorists alike who are making the switch to the biofuel as a cleaner and greener fuel solution.
Now for the first time, you can use HVO as part of your home energy mix. HVO is a fossil-free fuel made from waste plant matter which produces up to 90% less emissions when compared to conventional diesel. Find out more and order EcoMax here.
There are many benefits of using Crown HVO fuel, including operational and environmental factors. These include:

Yes, absolutely! The similarities between mineral diesel and HVO mean that it can be used as a drop-in alternative in most cases. But it’s always best to check with your engine manufacturer first.
HVO fuel has OEM approvals from a wide range of manufacturers for a wide range of diesel engines. An OEM approval means that the fuel can be used with no risk of voiding the warranty of the vehicle or machinery.
Please consult the below list of manufacturers that have approved the use of HVO fuel in their engines to see if your hardware is covered. If your engine manufacturer is not included, give us a call and we will be able to contact the provider to determine whether your engine can use HVO. Many vehicle handbooks are now outdated so may not include HVO approvals yet, but it’s likely you can use HVO without any issues.
