What is Solar PV?

Solar systems consist of various elements, the most important of which are Solar PV panels. They capture the energy of the sun and convert it into usable energy by creating an electric field. They’re available in a variety of sizes and shapes and usually mounted on roofs for direct access to sunlight.

The bigger the panels, the more energy the solar system will be able to produce. This is why we only choose the highest quality of Solar PV panels. However, installation is as important as the product, as poorly installed systems may malfunction or not perform at the expected level. Our experts will listen to your requirements, find the best place for installation, and get the job done.

Solar PV for Electricity

PV or photovoltaic solar panels operate completely differently from solar hot water collectors. When daylight strikes a PV solar panel, a DC electrical current is generated. When several panels are arranged in a roof in series, the current becomes significant. This DC current then travels to an inverter, which converts the electricity from DC to AC.

All homes in Ireland use AC power to run all the standard electrical items. PV solar panels provide free energy and free electricity to power your home. The output from our solar system is guaranteed, unlike any other system in Ireland.

How do Solar PV Panels Work?

Solar PV cells are arranged together to form a solar PV panel. One solar panel might have 60 small solar cells in it. A typical domestic system could have 5 to 20 solar panels on the roof, wired together in a solar panel bank. When the panels generate more power than your home requires, the excess can be diverted to your immersion to give you free hot water.

Once the water cylinder is hot, the excess can then be sent to the national grid. Practically every home has a connection to the grid, which is where electricity comes in to your home from the ESB. So, installing a solar PV system means reduced electricity bills forever as well as increased BER and green credentials for your home.

Do I Qualify for a Solar Grant?

A solar grant of €2,100 (including the €50 BER grant) is available to all solar systems installed in the Republic of Ireland. Grants are only available to households that were built before 2021 and which haven’t received grants from the Greener Homes Scheme previously.

We deduct the grant from our invoice, so you don’t need to worry about waiting on the grant to be refunded to you. As an approved SEAI solar installation company, we’ll take care of your entire grant application process. All you need todo is fill in some very simple paperwork.

Talk to us today and we we’ll get your grant sorted!
